English, Sinhala or Tamil medium: how to choose

1 min readBy PearlGate Academic Team

Students studying together at a table

PearlGate teaches AAT and IBSL courses in three languages. A few practical points to help you pick the medium that suits you best.

Our AAT and IBSL banking courses are taught in English, Sinhala and Tamil medium. The syllabus is the same in each medium — what changes is the language of the lectures and the material.

Study in the language you think in

Accounting and banking introduce many new ideas at once. Learning them in the language you are most comfortable with lets you focus on understanding the concepts rather than translating them.

Questions to ask yourself

  • Which language did you use for your O/L and A/L studies?
  • Which language will you write your exams in?
  • Do you plan to work in a role where English is used every day?
  • Which medium fits your timetable and location?

See each medium before you decide

When you open a course on our website you first choose the medium, then see the modules and the lecturer who teaches each one. If you are still unsure, contact us and we will talk it through with you.
